“Will They Come Back?” — And the Question I’d Rather Help You Ask
“Will they come back?”
It’s an understandable question when someone you care about has pulled away, a relationship has ended, or you’re left wondering whether things are truly over.
Perhaps you’re checking your phone more than you’d like to admit. Replaying your last conversation. Trying to work out whether their silence means they need space—or whether it’s time to let go.
When you’re in that uncertainty, wanting a clear answer is natural. You want to know whether to keep hoping.
If you came to me for a relationship tarot reading and asked that question, I wouldn’t judge you for it. But I would gently help you explore what else you need to know.
Because whether someone returns is only part of the picture. How they treat you if they do matters too.
What are you hoping their return would mean?
Sometimes, “Will they come back?” carries other questions beneath it.
Did I matter to them? Was what we had real? Could things be different this time? Will I ever stop feeling like this?
Those feelings deserve care, rather than a quick prediction that leaves you counting down the days until a message arrives.
Tarot can offer a way to reflect on the relationship, recognise patterns and consider your next steps. I don’t approach it as a guarantee of someone else’s future actions. People make choices, and those choices can change.
A question I’d rather help you explore is:
“What do I need to understand about this connection before deciding whether to welcome it back?”
That gives us room to look at what you miss, what was difficult, and what would need to change for a reunion to feel right for you.
You can still love someone and need more than their return.
“What do they think of me?”
When someone’s words and actions don’t seem to match, it’s easy to become absorbed in trying to understand them.
They’re warm one day and distant the next. They say they care, but you’re always the one making the effort. You find yourself looking for meaning in every small interaction.
I understand why you might turn to a love tarot reading for reassurance. But I wouldn’t present a reading as access to another person’s private thoughts.
Instead, we could explore:
“What do I need to see more clearly about the way this connection is unfolding?”
That brings attention to what you’re experiencing. Is there consistency? Is the interest mutual? Do you feel able to ask for clarity, or are you worried that expressing a need will push them away?
Their feelings may matter deeply to you. Your experience of the relationship matters just as much.
“Will my relationship work?”
You don’t have to be going through a breakup to seek relationship guidance.
Sometimes you’re still together, but something feels unsettled. You may be having the same disagreement repeatedly, feeling less connected, or wondering whether you want the same future.
“Will it work?” can feel like the obvious question. Yet a relationship’s future depends on more than how strongly two people feel about each other. Communication, trust, compatibility and the willingness to make changes all play a part.
A more useful starting point might be:
“What needs attention in this relationship, and what is within my power to change?”
A reading can help you reflect on your part in the dynamic, the needs you haven’t expressed, or the conversation you’ve been putting off.
It can also give you space to acknowledge that you cannot do the work of a relationship for two people.
“Should I wait for them?”
Waiting can feel like a way of keeping a connection alive.
Perhaps they’ve said they aren’t ready. Perhaps the relationship ended without a clear goodbye. Or perhaps there has been just enough contact to make moving on feel premature.
There is no need to criticise yourself for still hoping. But it can help to ask what waiting is costing you.
The question I’d gently suggest is:
“What do I need in order to move forward, whether or not they return?”
Moving forward doesn’t have to mean dating someone new or forcing yourself to stop caring. It might mean setting a boundary around contact, making plans you’ve been postponing, or deciding what you would need before considering another chance.
You don’t have to resolve every feeling today to take one step that supports you.
What a relationship tarot reading can offer
When emotions are tangled, it can be difficult to separate what you know from what you hope—or fear.
For me, a relationship tarot reading creates space to look at those feelings with care. The cards provide a starting point for exploring patterns, considering different perspectives and finding questions worth sitting with.
The aim is to help you feel clearer about your own choices. You should leave with something meaningful to reflect on, rather than feeling that you need another reading every time someone sends a message or goes quiet.
A reading may help you prepare for an honest conversation. It may help you name a need you’ve been dismissing. Sometimes, it gives you space to recognise something you already know but haven’t felt ready to acknowledge.
Your judgement and the reality of how someone treats you remain important.
You can begin with the question that’s on your mind
You don’t need to arrive with perfectly chosen words.
If “Will they come back?” is the question keeping you awake, that is where we can begin. There is no shame in wanting reassurance about someone you love.
My role is to meet that question with compassion and help you explore the wider picture: what this connection means to you, what you need, and how you want to move forward.
If you would appreciate time to read and reflect privately, my Personal Tarot Guidance offers a personally written email reading around your question.
Whether you’re navigating a breakup, an uncertain connection or a relationship that needs attention, there is room to explore what comes next—with your own wellbeing included in the answer.
